The Cross & Palm Sunday

The Cross & Palm Sunday

“When was the last time you went from praising Jesus to wanting him dead in your life?
It probably wasn’t too long ago” (Pastor Les)

It is so easy to give a cursory reading of Palm Sunday scripture and place ourselves in the camp of the people celebrating Jesus instead of the camp of the religious who were planning to kill Jesus.

The angry religious people and the crowds crying Hosanna have a lot more in common than you might think.

  • Both groups were ramped up by extreme emotions.
  • Both groups were right about Jesus changing things.
  • Both groups got the big picture wrong.

Why were the religious so angry?  Why were the crowds so excited?  What did they both get wrong?

And, most importantly, what can we learn about ourselves from the motives behind the crowds waving palm branches and the religious plotting murder?

“Not only that, but all the broken and dislocated pieces of the universe–people and things, animals and atoms–get properly fixed and fit together in vibrant harmonies, all because of his death, his blood that poured down from the cross” (Col. 1:20 MSG)
