A Messiah for All

Many of us assume that God only wants to help and save only those who already belong to Him. 2,000 years ago religious Jews had this same opinion. In fact, they regularly ignored scriptures like Isaiah 49:6…

“It is too small a thing for you to be my servant to restore the tribes of Jacob and bring back those of Israel I have kept. I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring my salvation to the ends of the earth.”

What scriptures that extend God’s grace and peace to a group outside of your own are you ignoring this Christmas season? Religion so often forces us to look only at how our Savior benefits us and leaves out the rest of the world, which is often hurt and suffering. In doing so we, the Christ-followers, take CHRIST out of Christmas.

I think that is why Luke reminded the world at the birth of Christ that this Messiah was not only for a select group of people but also for all those the Messiah’s religion considered unclean.

“Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying: “Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you now dismiss your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the sight of all people, a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel.” (Luke 2:28-32)

Who are the “gentiles” in your world this Christmas? Extend to them the Light of the World that lives within and is meant to overflow to all.
